War Child Australia and Inspired Adventures are excited to announce the launch of an exciting and unique fundraising program, the War Child Australia Cambodia Challenge 2010, to be held 11-22 May 2010.
Participants will cycle through stunning Cambodian countryside, absorb the exquisite palaces, pagodas and French inspired architecture of Phnom Penh, visit the magnificent Angkor Wat and spend three days at two orphanages undertaking a range of activities with the children.
“The War Child Australia Cambodia Challenge 2010 is a unique way for War Child Australia to raise much needed funds to support children who are victims of war”, said Clare Mirabello, Chair, War Child Australia.
“Participating in this challenge will give participants an insight into the specific impacts of war on children, and a strengthened understanding of the importance of working with children and rebuilding communities after war.”
“As well as the cycling adventure, participants will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to help the children at the orphanages. They will help out with cooking classes, art classes, play Khmer games and help teach English”, said Clare Mirabello.
Participants are required to raise a minimum of $6,900 to participate in the challenge. This money is donated to War Child Australia, once expenses are deducted (approximately half of monies raised goes to War Child Australia). Places are limited and based on a first come first served basis.
“It doesn’t take a lot of money to really make a difference to children who are victims of war. $30 can buy books for 30 children, $60 will reunite a child separated from their family by war and $100 can provide medicine for 100 children for 1 month”, said Clare Mirabello.
The challenge begins with the fundraising, the training and the physically challenging nature of the ride in a hot and dusty climate. Funds can be raised in a variety of imaginative and fun ways, from trivia nights, cinema nights, online sponsorship pages, restaurant evenings and company sponsorship – the list is endless – and ideas will be provided to you when you register.

About War Child
War Child works in countries affected by conflict to protect the most marginalised children: street children, child soldiers and children in prison. War Child was founded in 1993 in response to the plight of children caught in the war in former Yugoslavia. War Child Australia, the Australian chapter of War Child, was registered in July 2002 and is staffed entirely by volunteers. See www.warchild.org.au for more about our work.
