I had a chuckle at a recent tweet from Tim Reid commenting on niche markets and a book called “Marketing for Libraries”.
Wandering around my local book store I came across some similar niche books. Beautiful Cows I have actually never seen an ugly cow, have you? I wonder what sort of person buys this books and why?
Gourmet Crochet This cover of this book probably does not really explain how niche this book really is. It is an instruction manual for crocheting miniature pieces of food, cup-cakes, éclairs, pieces of watermelon, bananas, sushi rolls and so many more items.
Cloud Spotting You would be forgiven for thinking this was about spotting the latest trends on the Internet. Intact the title blandly shares the subject matter, spotting fluffy white in the sky variety of clouds.
As I am writing this blog, a blog inspired by a tweet from Tim Reid, of Small Business Big Marketing podcast fame, I am listening to him discuss the value of twitter – and I agree with what he says – many people invest to much time on twitter. A retweet or a favourite tweet does not put money in your wallet. twitter has it’s place, it is useful for recharging and inspiring, research, and connecting. Personally I believe I have found speaking and writing gigs via twitter – however I do not believe I have achieved any consulting gigs via twitter – and those that I have – they want mate’s rates!! I wonder if other people have come to the same conclusions.
I wonder if you have seen any niche books you would like to share?
