Raw Food Pizza – It tasted really yummy!

I attended a cooking demonstration run by Brendan Jones from Roar Foods at the old Burleigh Theatre arcade. Roar Foods specialises in organic raw food, serving it, and teaching others how to serve it.

In my mind I thought it was a hands on cooking class, so was relieved when it was a demonstration class, and I just got to sit back and relax, watching Brendan and Suki prepared the food, and then let the class taste test it.

As the name Roar Foods suggests all the ingredients started out raw, and they may have been sliced, diced or pureed, but were still served to us raw.  Not cooked and cold, absolutely raw. This surprised me as I did not think you could offer so much variety, from party food, to pizza to chocolate moose, made from raw vegetables.

I was amazed at how good everything tasted – even the recipes with avocado were yum – and I hate avocado! As promised the chocolate cake was divine. Here are the recipes that were demonstrated:

Roar Food Carrot & Beetroot

  • Thai Soup made with young coconut, ginger and sweet medjool dates
  • Raw Cashew Crème Cheese
  • Zucchini Canapés stuffed with cheese and fresh sprouts
  • Raw Pasta
  • Mushroom and olive pie with a scrumptious carrot/beetroot pastry
  • Cauliflower Cous Cous with fresh marinated vegetables
  • Apple pie with a walnut and date pastry
  • Chocolate mousse
  • Chocolate avocado

Over two hours, Brendan prepared 10 recipes. At Roar Foods they offer raw cooking classes and hands on

cooking classes. Everything tasted amazing – and the chocolate mousse recipe was especially delicious! It is good to see a business diversify, as well as offering food, offering classes in making the food, and recipe books to purchase. Certainly a good example of re-purposing what they do, and earning extra income from it.

If you are interested in raw food preparation and cannot get to a class, you can grab an e-book from the website. Roar Foods operates at the Miami Organic markets, and can cater for corporate events.
