On Friday evening I was a guest of Moose and Gibson – a cafe and private function room hire venue. Honestly I did not even know the place existed, but when I mentioned I was there foodie @Tiffinbitesized tweeted

That sounds good hey! I took a look at the venue on social media and they have an active Instagram account, lots of positive vibes, colourful yummy food, and they seem dog friendly – a big plus.

Jurgens Street runs perpendicular to Balaclava Street and the set of restaurants on Logan Rd (featuring Pearl Café). The area is turning into a foodies heaven, with Moose and Gibson have found themselves a large location, on a quiet street with plenty of available parking. Sweet!

I reckon you could do a nice pub crawl between the venues on Logan Road, Moose and Gibson and the Brews Brothers microbrewery on 31 Wellington Street.

Moose and Gibson has a ranch theme running through the décor. A John Wayne movie played on the wall above the bar, a large antler chandelier hung from the high ceiling, and above the kitchen, perhaps in what could be described as the attic, a talented musician entertained us.

Moose and Gibson have recently renovated and now have a large space available to for function hire.  I think you could easily fit 50 people in the venue and it opens up onto a quiet street – so perfectly contained for a private function.

I sampled the Coconut Quinoa Bircher and my husband sampled the Black Pudding and Parmesan Croquette with paprika aioli from the new Winter menu. We also tried the sliders from the Function menu and they were the best sliders we’ve ever eaten! Totally Moorish and highly recommendable. For the function we attended delicious wine, beer and champagne was on offer – which I assume would be on offer if you had a private function there. I stuck to the white chardonnay.

Brisbane’s best slider ever. @mooseandgibson #Woolloongabba #nightlife #brisbane

I was able to chat with the operations manager who said they ran three cafes in Brisbane.

He explained that for rostering staff they used the cloud based solution GoRoster. He loved this solution and thought it saved him a considerable amount of time and hassle. He could create a roster, send it out to staff, and they accepted it into their calendar, or rejected it, and he knew he had a gap.

For point of sale they use the cloud solution iMpos. The waiter uses small iPads to take orders, and they are fed back to the relevant area – be it drinks or foods. You can see from the image below the screen is super easy to use, simplifying and expediting the order process.

It’s immensely satisfying to see businesses moving their operations to cloud solutions and recognising efficiency benefits.

We decided to leave the car parked overnight and used an Uber taxi to get home. I am a big fan of Uber – the alternative taxi service. You might be interested to view my invoice from the trip – notice how detailed it is – the name of the driver the pick-up and drop off time, the route taken and the final amount charged to my card.  This is all achieved by me simply clicking a button on my iPhone Uber app and booking a car. I’m then notified the license plate number and the name of the driver and his ratings. If a drivers ratings drop below four star I’ve heard they are dropped off the service. The drivers have their own ABN’s so some may have GST on their invoice and some may not be registered for GST – so you want be charged it. As soon as the booking is made – there is a record of who you’re driver is – so if you have security concerns – you’ll be happy to know that is recorded up front. Then the invoice and record of the trip is emailed to me, and if it’s a business expense I forward it to Receipt Bank which extracts the data and pushes the details into Xero – my beautiful online accounting solution. The expense then sits as a bill waiting to be reconciled against the bank data that feeds in.

We came back the next morning to pick up the car and planned to try the Moose and Gibson breakfast menu – and the venue was chockers! You’ve been warned – get in early if you want breakfast at Moose and Gibson it’s a popular venue.
