Today, 7/12/2024 I’m celebrating 17 years in business!

I’m grateful to my extended network of brilliant clients, colleagues, and supporters. You’ve been part of this story in ways that inspire and challenge me daily.

Nostalgically, I was reading through a list of some of the 700+ amazing clients I’ve worked with over the years. I can still recall many of our conversations!! While I hope I supported you, I know I’ve learnt so much from each of you over the years. Almost all of you seemed to show up at just the right time—allowing me to use what I knew while pushing me to step up, evolve and grow. (What is that phenomenon called?)

When I started out, I couldn’t have imagined reaching a point where I’d be on the cusp of issuing my 6000th invoice. I often feel compelled to take action based on necessity, rather than following the easy, commercially viable, status quo route. So I’m glad I’ve figured out how to fill my coffers, as well as sparkle.

I’m a micro business, and while that means I’m small, if you are a good human who’s connected with me, I most likely consider you to be an extension of my global business. These relationships are so important to me, and I genuinely treasure them.

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone starting out, it’s this: get paid upfront. I’m keen to test out the Ignition Solo Plan in the new year (thanks to my good friends at Ignition). It’s designed to help engage, bill, and get paid—a tech solution to avoid that sinking feeling of chasing payments. If you don’t know the final cost of a project, pre-bill in 10-hour blocks. This is not a sponsored post, I love my tech and there are other great solutions out there. Trust me—having good tech and processes makes all the difference.

This photo captures the incredible life I’ve built for myself as an accountant. I’m enjoying a wonderful evening with two industry legends, Amanda Newton & Glenn Castle. We spent the day sharing accounting technology goodness with the Asian community at the Accounting & Business Show Asia. The backdrop is one of my favourite places in the world, the Boat Quay, by the Singapore River. (Fun fact: directly behind me is Victoria Theatre, where I performed in a pantomime in the ’90s!) We’re giving Korean finger hearts—a symbol of appreciation and positivity. The moves limbered us up for a speakeasy dance floor later into the evening.
