I have just learnt of a new tool – the Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool.  The Outlook database is stored in a file, with the extension name pst.  PST stands for Personal Storage Table.  The Repair Tool optimises the data file by scanning it to see if it is intact, and resets & rebuilds if necessary.  The tool is called scanpst.exe and you should only run it when Microsoft Outlook is closed.

You can typically find the scanpst.exe file here;

C drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12.
