The Australian government has recognised the importance of small business going online, and has offered a number of grants to assist the business owner into the ecommerce environment.  Many small business owners do have an online website, though thru lack of time or understandings have simply left it alone, and thus the investment is not being optimised.

Brad Halcrow of Neurovision shares 5 simple tips for improving a website presence, and maximising returns.

1. Occasionally tweet your website.

Now that Google indexes Twitter, a niche Twitter update using key words, enhances the likelihood you’re website will be found. For example: Beautiful white furniture now in stock: {insert URL].

2. Include a ‘Call to Action’ on every page.

Call Now! Sign Up! Contact Us!  Invite prospective clients to make contact with you immediately.  Ensure the invite stands out, and is high on the web page.

3. Include white space.

White spaces allow your headings to be easily caught by the visitor’s eye.  You need to ensure the size of your body text and the size of your headings contrast, to make it easy to read.

4. Keep your content up to date.

Your websites ranking on Google will be improved by fresh content.  Establish how you are able to update the website, and aim to do it at least monthly.

5. Review

Review your site, is the content still relevant to your business as it stands today.  Just like a shop, without a spit and polish, without a fresh look and occasionally update it can tend to look neglected.

“Promote the business website, update it, ensure it is easy to use, and customers actually know what the business sells and how to buy it, and your business will reap the returns”
