A note from Veechi Curtis that may be of interest to you:

Just a quick reminder that the 1st July 2010 saw yet another change in employee rates and conditions across Australia. These changes affect minimum rates of pay, casual loadings, and weekend penalty rates Transitional provisions do apply however, so you may be able to phase in any increases annually over the next five years. So don’t be caught out, and visit the Fair Work Australia website to make sure you’re paying your employees the correct amount.

By the way, the Fair Work Australia website may not be relevant to you if you’re a sole trader or partnership based in Western Australia. In this case you need to go to http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au.

My latest book Bookkeeping For Dummies, includes two chapters about managing employee payroll, including info about how to keep up to date with the latest award changes, and how to keep on top of all your employee reporting obligations. I’ve got a special offer of free freight running with this title until the end of September – so why not order your book today and get it sent freight-free?
